Jim's Trip to Rainbow Springs Florida April, 2006
| This ultra-clear water is from the spring-fed Rainbow River, the purest, most pristine river in the United States. It's got 150 ft. horizontal visibility! It's 100% spring fed and has all kinds of interesting caves to discover as you float downstream with mask and snorkel. The problem is, as soon as you stick your head into a cave, you get blasted with the spring water rushing out at a high rate of speed. There is an abundance of fish, turtles, birds, etc., that makes for a spectacular snorkeling experience as you float down the river. |

What you're seeing here is Rainbow Springs State Park, which comprises the
headsprings of the Rainbow River.
This is where the river starts.

This is downtown Ocala, which is where I spent the night. It's about 20
minutes from Rainbow Springs

Here is a part of old Florida, away from the tourist traps and beaches. This
is downtown Arcadia, which is about an hour inland from Sarasota. The town is
now essentially a ghost town since the new super-Walmart was built on the
outskirts of town.
